The 2012 SMSA Conference also provides a unique opportunity to combine both private and public associations at the Technical Exhibit. The 2012 SMSA Executive Committee cordially invites any agency, company, or association interested in promoting motorcycle safety, transportation services, products, training or technology to exhibit at the upcoming conference.
The 2012 SMSA Executive Committee has designed the 2012 Exhibit area to give the most exposure to a few select organizations. The exhibition hall is located directly across from the conference meeting rooms, thereby providing a highly visible and accessible exhibition area, maximizing each exhibitor’s exposure to all conference delegates. SMSA 2012 Business Meeting
The SMSA will be conducting a members' business meeting from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM (noon) on August 24 at the Music City Sheraton in Nashville, Tennessee. All State Voting, Supporting Associate, Professional, Corporate, Supporting and Emeritus Associate members are invited to participate in this business meeting.

Professional Development Workshop for State Administrators, Directors of State Highway Safety Offices and Military Rider Training Administrators
A Professional Development Workshop (PDW) for Rider Training Administrators will be held in conjunction with the 2012 Annual SMSA Conference on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
The PDW will focus on the development of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) – Model Administrative Standards for Motorcycle Rider Training Programs.
It is essential that Rider Training Administrators plan to attend this PDW to provide their input. The PDW will give participants the opportunity to discuss the Model Standards and offer suggestions. A draft copy of the Standards will be emailed to participants prior to the PDW.
There is no registration fee and registration is limited to only State Administrators, Directors of State Highway Safety Offices and Military Rider Training Administrators. Attendees must register prior to the conference. To register, please click here.
Call For Papers for 2012 Conference
The SMSA is actively seeking informative, timely and relevant presentations for breakout sessions on motorcycle safety related topics that will educate and motivate conference participants and support the goal of reducing motorcycle crashes and related injuries. In an effort to provide the most value to our members and conference attendees, we are looking for a broad range of topics, including but not limited to: effective and efficient program management; law enforcement and motorcycle safety; evaluation, data collection and analysis; innovative instructional techniques and courses; highway engineering; effective public awareness and rider conspicuity efforts; evaluating programs and projects; and problem identification.

2012 SMSA Outstanding Contribution Award
The SMSA Award Committee is seeking nominations for the 2012 SMSA Outstanding Contribution Award. This annual award, formerly known as the Chairperson Award, recognizes individuals who through their dedication, commitment and contribution to motorcycle safety have made a positive impact on a national, state or local level. 2012 SMSA Outstanding State Award
The SMSA Award Committee is seeking nominations for the 2012 SMSA Outstanding State Award. This is a new award that recognizes a state with a comprehensive state motorcycle safety program (NHTSA Highway Safety Program Guideline No. 3 – Motorcycle Safety Program) and has implemented strategies that are successful, effective and can be measured, evaluated and serve as best practices. Dues Structure Committee
A committee has been created to study the structure of the current SMSA membership dues. Laura Snow is chairing the committee consisting of Bobbie Carlson, Eugene Carbine, John Petrush, Paul Graves, Despina Metakos and Andy Krajewski. The committee’s first conference call occurred on March 27. Most of the time was spent on “brainstorming” and identifying information that should be gathered. This committee hopes to have its work completed and a dues proposal ready prior to the August conference.
