Activity One: Discuss Module objectives and workshop rationale.
5 minutes
Explain that participants will be shown a series of scenarios with photographs and audio which
describe situations on the range during a BRC. There are many behaviors that RiderCoaches
exhibit that may inhibit learning. This module is designed to display some of these and allow
RiderCoaches to identify these behaviors and develop practical methods for improving their
coaching skills and creating a more positive learning environment.

Instructor note:
Show Powerpoint Slide #2 Objectives
Selectively reveal each objective and have a participant read
aloud each objective as they are revealed. As an option, you
can read the objectives to the class, but this doesnt foster
participant participation.
Activity Two: On the range scenarios.
40 Minutes
Several on-range scenarios will be presented one at a time. Pay close attention to each photo and
listen carefully to the accompanying audio. As a group at each table, take about 5 minutes to
discuss what you saw and heard. Using your experiences, come to a group consensus on what
could be done differently to improve the performance of the RiderCoach in each situation. Each
table should choose a reporter to present your groups recommendations.
Participants will have handouts of the slides that they can use to record notes on new methods
they might want to try based on their group discussions. Well highlight these at the end of the
workshop.
Use the following questions as a guide as you develop the group responses at your table:
What did you see?
What did you hear?
What would you do differently?
Instructor note:
Each table should have selected a reporter who will respond to each scenario.
Go around the room to all tables until all unique ideas have been heard. Some tables may have
the same conclusion and there is no need to repeat the same responses.
