Idea Sampler

In this section: | Media Kit | Print Materials |

Introduction

May and June are traditionally the months when states make an extra effort to promote motorcycle safety focusing on motorist awareness. Whether special activities and promotions are scheduled for one designated week or throughout the entire month, most states go above and beyond their normal motorcycle safety promotions to encourage media and other special groups to join forces.

In the following pages, you will find samples and ideas of how your state can promote Motorcycle Safety Week/Month. This Idea Sampler focuses primarily on promoting motorist awareness of motorcycles, but also offers a list of resources available in different states to promote rider skills training, use of protective equipment, and the dangerous combination of drinking and riding.

This Idea Sampler will assist you in getting media support and involvement, suggest how to work with volunteers and will provide you with numerous cost efficient ways to promote motorcycle safety. Contents of this Idea Sampler were collected from state programs who are members of the National Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators (SMSA).

SMSA was established in 1984 as a forum for the exchange of information among state-sponsored motorcycle education programs. With over 40 current voting members, SMSA also provides guidance in planning, implementing and evaluating statewide safety programs. This Idea Sampler is one example of SMSA's commitment toward information and resource sharing among its current and future members.
